In conversation with the FCA

5-8pm, 16th September 2025
Mishcon de Reya, Africa House, 70 Kingsway, London WC2B 6AH

Our first forum of the autumn will be a conversation with the FCA, hosted by Mishcon de Reya.

A theme running through many of our discussions has been how NEDs can better engage with the FCA. Providing independent challenge to the executive and a longer term view of the impact of firms’ activities, non-executives’ goals have a lot in common with those of the regulators.

As regulation evolves, the independent director’s role has as much to do with their firms’ place in an effective industry as ensuring compliance with the rules. And while the FCA and government actively seek input from across financial services, independent non-execs who’ve had experience in several environments provide a valuable sounding board.

We are delighted to be joined by Alexander Smith, the Head of Strategic and Cross-cutting Policy Department at the Financial Conduct Authority. Ben and Alexander will also be joined on the panel by Adam Epstein from Mishcon de Reya and Karina McTeague, part of our NED community.

The discussion will be wide ranging but broadly will cover the FCA’s expectations of NEDs in the context of both supervision and culture and how NEDs can balance the regulatory burden with growth.

As ever there will be plenty of opportunity for discussion and networking over a glass of wine.

Kindly hosted at Mishcon de Reya
