Jullius Baer is hosting our first event exclusively for Company Secretaries in UK Financial Services on 4th June.
Over the last two years NEDs in FS events have covered a wide range of topics – from subsidiary board governance and board dynamics to conflict and regulatory developments. Many of these conversations have highlighted issues that sit at the heart of the Company Secretary role, particularly in supporting Chairs and non-executive directors to operate effectively in a regulated environment.
We are holding a dedicated breakfast for Company Secretaries of UK regulated financial services firms to share experiences, challenges and practical approaches. The discussion will focus on how the Company Secretary role supports effective board oversight and strong working relationships with Chairs and NEDs.
Hosted at Julius Baer’s offices in Farringdon, the session will take the form of a roundtable discussion facilitated by Ben Blackett-Ord of NEDs in FS with plenty of time for open exchange between participants. Ben will also be joined by Sam Tymms, who has been a NED and committee chair for 10 years in listed and private companies and led numerous board performance reviews for financial services houses.
Topics are likely to include the evolving expectations around board information and reporting (including the use of AI), striking the right balance between strategy and risk, approaches to minute-taking in a scrutinised environment, and the realities of managing board and stakeholder relationships — particularly where there are tensions or constraints. Time permitting, we’ll also touch on succession, recruitment and how the CoSec role itself is evolving.
